description Community amenities are the important element in a residential area which provides an opportunity for local residents to interact and communicate. Provision of community amenities in low cost housing areas often overlooked by some developers in Malaysia. This study was conducted to get an overview of the perceptions of residents on community amenities in Pangsapuri Pelangi and Flat Teluk Indah, Pulau Pinang. A total of 720 respondents were randomly selected. Primary information was obtained through questionnaires, while secondary information through books, thesis,Carticles and research reports. The results showed that most of the respondents were satisfied with the community amenities provided and they frequently use the facilities. Study also found that the facilities such as community hall, religion facilities, kindergarten, school and children playground have been operated and maintained in both study areas. Significantly, majority of the residents in both study areas Pangsapuri Pelangi and Flat Teluk Indah agreed that the facilities has influenced social interaction and enable them to interact and communicate among the community members besides creating patriotism among the residents who were active in the programme. As conclusion, the study proposed an appropriate facilities design guideline has to be properly outlined so that the provision of community amenities can be provided efficiently.
