The purpose of this study was to find out the perceptions of teachers and students towards the implementation of competency based assessment for Vocational Stream Subject in Vocational and Technical Secondary School in Sabah. The instruments used in this study were two sets of questionnaire consisted of 30 items each in Likert Scale. The respondents for this study were 64 teachers (N = 64) and 423 students (N = 423) from the Vocational and Technical Secondary School in Sabah. The results showed that teachers and students have positive perceptions towards the implementation of competency based assessment for Vocational Stream Subject. The collected data were
analyzed using the t-test, ANOVA and Pearson Correlation test. The outcome of the study revealed that there was a significant relationship between the teachers' perceptions
towards the implementation of competency based assessment. The results showed a positive significant relationship among three variables of teacher knowledge, skills and readiness towards the implementation of competency based assessment. The ANOVA test depicted no significant difference in the perception of knowledge, skills and readiness on the implementation of competency based assessment. On the contrary, ANOVA test showed significant difference between students' perceptions of different courses towards the implementation of competency based assessment. However the
different perceptions were encountered only in two out of five dimensions measured, that is, the "freedom" and "teacher support". The t-test showed no significant difference between the students' perceptions among different gender towards the implementation of competency based assessment for Vocational Stream Subject |
