Summary:This study aims to explain teacher's empowerment and to determine its inter-relationship with work motivation using demographic factors such as age, gender, school, race, category, position, the number of years of service, the principal's gender and length of service with the present principal. The study of teacher empowerment is based on six dimensions, namely teacher impact, status, autonomy, self-efficacy hers opportunities for professional development and decision-making. It also aims to determine the relationship between teacher empowerment and work motivation based on four dimensions namely achievement motivation, power motivation, affiliation motivation and existence motivation. The subjects of this study are 447 teachers of sixteen secondary school in Kuala Muda/Yan district. The data are analysed using The SPSS method including the Pearson Correlation, t-test and one-way ANOVA. The findings show that teacher empowerment is practiced in those schools being studied. The result also shows that the priority of the dimensions in teacher empowerment process is in the following order; teacher status, teacher opportunities for professional development, teacher self-efficacy, teacher autonomy, teacher impact and teacher involvement in decision-making. Generally, the teacher's involvement in empowerment process is only at the average level. Findings based on the t-test and ANOVA test show that the factors, which have significant differences, are the gender, category, age, position, the number of years of service and the length of the service with the present principal. The findings show that the main dimension variables in work motivation are the afiliation motivation followed by existing motivation, achievement motivation and power motivation. The work motivation level of the teacher shows that 52.1 % of the teachers in the high level, while 47.9% is in the average level and no teachers falls in the low motivation level. Meanwhile the result of t-test and ANOVA test show that the factors, which contribute to the significant differences are, category, school and position. The findings of the correlation test show that there is a significant relationship between teacher empowerment and work motivation.
