Summary:The main purpose of this study is to identify job-related factors and non-job-related factors and its relationship with job stress among teachers in secondary schools. A questionnaire survey was used to conduct this study. The survey was carried out using a sample of 98 secondary school teachers from a secondary school in Kepala Batas town in the district of Seberang Perai Utara, Penang. A total of 102 forms were distributed but only 98 sets could be used. Data collected were analysed using the Statistical Package For The Social Science (SPSS). The results revealed that most of the teachers from the choosen secondary school have a high level of work stress. The results also revealed no significant difference in teachers job stress level by demography characteristics. The result of the study shows that the factors that were known to be most stressful among the job-related factors are 1) work load 2) students attitude 3) relationship in organization 4) job expansion opportunity and 5) environment. Wherelse for the non-job-related factors, the root of stress is personal health. It also indicate that there is a significant difference between the mean value stress for the job-related factors and non-job related factors. Based on the findings, some recommendation should be essential to overcome stress faced by teachers. The Ministry of Education should consider a program that could lessen the burden of teachers.
