Summary:Islam has laid down the principles of work ethics based on the al-Quran and alSunnah. However, there are concerns among the Islamic work ethic writers in Malaysia in terms of principles and number of principles and arguments in al-Quran and al-Sunnah Islam related to work ethics. Therefore, this study was undertaken to examine the principles of Islamic work ethics in the Islamic literatures in Malaysia through three objectives, namely to identify the Islamic work ethics principles in alQuran and al-Sunnah, analyse the principles of Islamic work ethics and arguments used by scholars of the literatures and also summarize the harmonization of the principles of Islamic work ethics used by the scholars in the Islamic work ethics in Malaysia with the Islamic work ethics found in the al-Quran and al-Sunnah. The method used is content analysis. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The study found that there are eight (8) principles of work ethics in Islam according to the al-Quran and al-Sunnah, which is Taqwa, ‘Amal Saleh, al-Birr, al-Qist, Ihsan, Masuliyah, Ma’ruf and Itqan. There are 35 principles of Islamic work ethics along with the arguments from al-Quran and al-Sunnah from the Islamic work ethic scholars in Malaysia. The study also found that the Islamic work ethics expressed by the scholars are in accordance with the principles of the al-Quran and al-Sunnah. The results of this study contribute to previous studies related to work ethics according to al-Quran and al-Sunnah. Based on the findings, recommendation for making Islamic work ethics as an important element of in the Islamic community career development is proposed.
