The phenomenon of breaking the school disciplinary regulation is a problem that needs to be solve as soon as possible. If not, then the new generation of students and
teenagers will grow-up to be adults who will bring a lot of social problems in the society. The lack of moral values in the younger generation will affect the nation in
the long run. The objective of this survey is to find out the categorization of the students disciplinary problems in secondary school. Furthermore, the survey also wish to find out whether the background factors such as age, gender, race, family’s income, the number of children in the family and peers influence indicate a pattern in
the disciplinary problems of the students of secondary school. The research is a combination of Qualitative and Quantitative survey. It is carried out through a
structured interview and an analysis of the content. The population of the research area are 910 students, 512 are boys and 398 are girls. The size of the sample survey
is based on Krejcie and Morgan (1972) who used 270 secondary school students as their sample. The survey is carried out through ‘cross-sectional’. The research was
carried out at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Syed Mohamed Al-Bukhary in Alor Setar District, Kedah Darul Aman. 270 normal students, a random of boys and girls were involved in the survey. The data and information are collected through structured interview and analyse in descriptive statistic. Percentages are used to show the relation between the students background to the disciplinary problems done by the students. The results of the survey showed, there are disciplinary problems among the students. The factors of age, gender, race, family income, the number of children in the family and peers influence show a pattern to the disciplinary problems of the students. The most frequent types disciplinary problems done by the students are cheating and loafing. The cross-sectional table of the students’ background with
the disciplinary problems showed that :-
The male students have more disciplinary problems than the female students, the students 13 years of age have the most disciplinary problems compared to the other age limit, the students with 4 or more siblings in their family with an income less than RM600.00 a month have a lot of disciplinary problems.
