Description
Summary:The Association of Peninsular Malaysia Students (Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung (GPMS)) is a non-governmental organization that helps Bumiputera Malay students, particularly in education and entrepreneurship. GPMS assists schools to always maintain the sustainable development of education at a good level. This study focuses on the effectiveness of the education and entrepreneurship development program among Bumiputera students especially in the rural Malay area in Padang Terap in the state of Kedah. This study explores the motivation awareness program among the students to produce more competitive students. The study also aims at evaluating the role of the GPMS in the development program of secondary school students in Padang Terap from 2005-2014. It examines and evaluates the extent to which the GPMS agenda could hone students’ leadership skills, help improve school achievement and foster entrepreneurial opportunities among Malay students in secondary schools, besides observing the cooperation between GPMS and the schools in the development of education. This study used a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, literature review and document analysis. The findings show many positive reactions from the school, the teachers and the community leaders including entrepreneurs and top management in Padang Terap. The study also shows the effectiveness of the GPMS program in producing leaders that can be sources of inspiration and models to the students or the public. The results show that the capacity development adopted by GPMS is successful in generating rural Malay Bumiputeras who are able to compete and it also always champions Malay Bumiputeras’ education as the main reason for the establishment of the GPMS in Malaysia
