Summary: | The primary purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of in-house training programme along two levels; management and outcome. The effectiveness of in-house training management was based on five dimensions
namely readiness, planning training implementation and maintenance. The outcome level is evaluated on three dimensions namely knowledge, skills and attitudes. This study also attempts to determine the correlation between management level and the outcome level of in-house training programme. 180 questionnaires were distributed to
the various secondary school teachers in the district of Padang Terap and Pendang, Kedah Darul Aman. 167 respondents or 92.8% completed and returned the questionnaires that were then analysed for this research. For data analysis, appropriate SPSS programmes were used. The findings of the study reflected that the management level of in-house training programme has achieved a high level for five dimensions; readiness, planning, training, implementation and maintenance. The findings of the study also showed that the outcome level of in-house training
programme has achieved a high level for three dimensions; knowledge, skills and attitudes. The result showed that the correlation between the management level and the outcome level is strongly positive. There are no significant differences in terms of gender and teachers’ experiences. The finding showed that the overall perceptions of the teachers toward the effectiveness of in-house training programme have achieved a high level. This
is indeed encouraging for staff developement. Several recommendations are made at the end of this study for the benefit of in-house training in schools to improve the teachers professionalism, in line with the nation’s
educational vision.
