Description
Summary:The purpose of this study were to (a) assess the relationship between the organization commitment and the professional commitment (b) identify and correlate which variables are related to both types of commitment (c) assess the relationship between job satisfaction and these types of commitment. Previous studies have indicated different results regarding the relationship between organizational commitment and professional commitment. This also applies to the relationship between selected demographic variables and both types of commitment. However, most of the researchers agree about the positive relationship between job satisfaction and these commitment types. This study was based on the instrument developed by Meyer and Allen (1993). The respondents were 209 lecturers from three Teachers Training Colleges in Malaysia Peninsular. Analysis of data showed that there was a strong positive correlation between organizational commitment and professional commitment and both commitments with job satisfaction. There was however no significant difference among the respondents in both kinds of commitment based on the demographic variables. In the light of findings, the researcher has suggested ways to improve the commitment among lecturers in teacher colleges in Malaysia.
