Summary:This research is aimed to find out the number of students with low self-esteem in Form 4 seconday schools in the South West District of Penang. It is also intended to find out the number and percentage of students who needs individual counselling. A total of 300 samples comprising of Form 4's were chosen at random from six schools. The Lewis Counseling Inventory is used as an instrument to find out the self-esteem of the individuals. The result showed various categories of self-esteem. These categories are based on the percentage of students with low self-esteem. The first category is their relationship with their family (22.3%), the second, their relationship with teachers (19%) , the third, being irritability (18%), the forth, regarding their social confidence (14%), the fifth, their health (11%) and lastly, their relationship with their peers (10.3%). The results show 15.7% of them are having low self-esteem but only 10.7% approach or meet with their counselors. The remaining 5% are assumed to be referring to their significant ones for counseling. The finding also answers all the hyphothesis put foward in the research. Pearson Correlation is used to test the significant relationship of the hypothesis. The results show, there is a significant relationship between self-esteem and the types of school, housing areas and modern mathematic achievement. A Oneway ANOVA is used to find whether there are any significant differences. The result shows at the level p<.05, there is a significant difference between the housing areas and the self-esteem of the students.
