Stratified random sampling were used for this study. Data was collected through 67 item questionnaire constructed on a 5 Likert scale. Both descriptive and Inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Statistical tools such as t-Test, One Way Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA) and Multiple Regression were used to test the hypothesis. The 0.05 level of significant were used in this study. The findings of this study showed that most of the students come from the lower socio-economic group. Their academic achievements are moderate. This study further found that students’ past performance, reference (books and friends), home environment in terms of physical guidance and locus of control significantly influenced the academic achievement of the students. All the variables significantly explained 69.8 percent of the variance in academic achievement.
