Description
Summary:The purpose of this study was to determine primary school headteachers style of leadership and its corelation to school effectiveness in Perak. A questionaire consists of 30 items (15 items on initiating 'structure' and 15 items on' consideration') adapted from the Ohio State Leader Behavior Description Questionaires (LBDQ) was administered to 60 primary school headteachers (sekolah kebangsaan) in Perak. The measure of school effectiveness in this study is based on the school achievement in the UPSR examination for 2002. The findings of the study showed that the primary headteachers in Perak were practicing bath initiating 'structure' and 'consideration' style of leadership in school. The findings also showed that the primary school headteachers favoured more on consideration style of leadership rather than on initiating structure. Furthermore, the findings showed that there was no differences in headteachers styles of leadership in effective schools and in less effective schools. However, the findings showed that initiating structure style of leadership was practiced more often by effective schools headteachers compared to the less effective schools headteachers.
