Summary:<p>Facebook as one of the social networking sites has captured the attention of educators and</p><p>policy-makers as an alternative tool for language teaching and learning. The use of</p><p>Facebook made the teaching and learning process interesting for the students and had</p><p>given the students an opportunity to better understand novels. The objectives of the study</p><p>were to explore the use of Facebook in learning literature among lower secondary school</p><p>ESL students and to investigate their perception during the learning process. The study</p><p>employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches to research. This study had two</p><p>phases of investigation. The first phase involved survey-questionnaires. Meanwhile, the</p><p>second phase involved conducting a quasi-experiment and semi-structured interviews.</p><p>The subjects employed for the study were 60 lower secondary ESL school students using</p><p>purposive sampling method. The subjects, were then divided equally for the treatment</p><p>and control groups. The findings indicated that Facebook could be an effective tool in</p><p>learning a novel. The results concluded that the students could use Facebook to help them</p><p>understand a novel better. The results of the study implied that the use of Facebook is a</p><p>beneficial literature-learning tool for lower secondary ESL students.</p>
