Description
Summary:Al-Qira'at al-Shadhdhah is a rejected recitation style which is not considered as part of the Qur'an. It is due to its inability to comply with the rules of Qira'at recitation set forth by the Ulama'. Among those companions who are frequently associated with Al-Qira'at al-Shadhdhah is "Abd Allah bin Mas'ut r.a. even though he has high reputation and credibility. There are several Qira'at originated from Ibn Mas'ud which are neglected and considered as Shadhdhah especially after the event of Qur'anic collection and rewriting during the reigns of "Uthman r.a. Thus, this incident has given vast opportunities to the enemy and commentators of Islam as a tool to attack authenticity of the Qur'an. Therefore, this study is aims to identify a narration of Al-Qira'at al-Shadhdhah recitation originated from "Abd Allah bin Mas'ut r.a. Later, it is evaluated and analysed based on one of the accepted pillars of recitation which is must be parallel with rasm mashaf'Uthmani. This study is also aim to investigate relationship between Rasm 'Uthmani and Al-Qira'at al-Shadhdhah. This study is a qualitative study that utilizes a content analysis method. The data collected was analysed descriptively. This study has found that there are 402 places of differences in recitations and writing styles between Qira'at Ibn Mas'ud and Rasm 'Uthmani. Based on the analyses, it is found that khilaf had happened in five instances, those are, firstly is al-Ibdal (replacement) in 270 places, secondly is al-Ziyadah (Addition) in 71 places, thirdly is al-Nuqsan (Elimination) in 23 places, fourthly is al-Taqdim wa al-Ta'khir (advance and end) in 10 places, fifthly is Tajamu' al-Ikhtilaf (compilation of Khilaf) in 28 places. This study has proven that overall of recitation AlQira'at al-Shadhdhah originated from "Abd Allah bin Mas'ud r.a is merely characterized as tafsiriyyah and not antonym in nature. This study also discovered that the relation between Rasm "Uthmani and Al-Qira'at al-Shadhdhah has been ended by the time Mashaf''Uthmani is instituted Other than that, the credibility of Abd Allah bin Mas'ud r.a. is not affected even though numerous allegations were thrown toward him. The implication of this study shows that the authenticity and originality of Mashaf 'Uthmani couldn't be disputed. Thus, further studies need to be conducted in the field of Qira'at to ensure the authenticity of the Qur'an and al-Qira'at are well protected.
