Saiva Siddhantahs theory is applied to analyze the</p><p>rhythmic poem known as Nurpa in Tolkappiyam. Qualitative studies have been</p><p>conducted to achieve the objectives of this research. The main objective of this study</p><p>is to identify the concept of Saiva Siddhanta in the content of Tolkappiyam which</p><p>includes three main parts namely, Ezutatigaram (phonology), Solathigaram</p><p>(etymology) and Porulatigaram (subject). The finding of first objective shows that</p><p>there are 6 concepts of Saiva Siddhanta embedded in the essence of Tolkappiyam</p><p>namely phonological grammar, the concept of soul, the concept of karma, the concept</p><p>of divinity, the concept of worship and the concept of monotheism. The finding of the</p><p>second objective shows the theory of God, life and the elements of impurity in</p><p>explaining the 6 concepts of Saiva Siddhanta identified earlier. Meanwhile, The</p><p>finding of the third objective shows the Tamil language teachers have less</p><p>understanding and appreciation of the essence of Saiva Siddhanta's philosophy in</p><p>Tolkappiyam. In conclusion although Tolkappiyam and Saiva Siddhanta were written</p><p>in different time frames yet the findings of the study prove that Saiva Siddhanta is an</p><p>expanded and detailed version of divine philosophy embedded in Tolkappiyams</p><p>work. This study has linked the importance of Tolkappiyam and Saiva Siddhanta and</p><p>in turn was able to instill the awareness of the Tamil community to better understand</p><p>and deepen the philosophy of Saiva Siddhanta contained in Tolkappiyam.</p> |
