Summary:<p>The significanceofcriticalthinkinghasprogressivelybeenperceivedandbrings</p><p>manyadvantagestothepractitionersindifferentfields.Criticalthinkinginthesector</p><p>of educationallowslearnerstothinkaboutandassesstheirownlearningand</p><p>behaviors.Literaturestudycanbeaneffectivemethodoffosteringcriticalthinking</p><p>amonglanguagelearners.Oneofsuchmethodisusinggraphicnovelsinthe</p><p>classroomtopromotecriticalthinkingamongstudents.Theysupportcriticalthinking</p><p>by enhancingdiscussionandprovidingvariedandthought-provokingsubjectmatter.</p><p>However,theuseofgraphicnovelsstillrequirealotofempiricalevidencetosupport</p><p>thesuccessofitsuseinpromotingcriticalthinking.Thus,thisresearchaimedto</p><p>investigatethepotentialityofusinggraphicnovelsinpromotingcriticalthinking</p><p>skillsamongstudentsintheEnglishlanguageclassroom.Targetparticipantsofthe</p><p>researchwere50YearSixpupilsfromthreeschools.Theywereselectedthrough</p><p>purposivesamplingtechnique.Thefindingsofthisstudyweredeterminedthroughthe</p><p>useofquantitativeandqualitativeresearchusingobservationforms,questionnaires,</p><p>andinterviews.Theanalysisofobservationaldatashowedgradualimprovementin</p><p>answeringquestionscriticallyasthepupilsventurefurtherintothegraphicnovel.</p><p>Besidesthat,10outof12statementsinthequestionnairehavemeanofmorethan4.0.</p><p>Thisshowsthatthepupilsthinkthatthegraphicnovelisveryeffectiveinpromoting</p><p>criticalthinking.Theanalysisofinterviewdatashowsthatthecombinationoftext</p><p>andimages,colour,guttersandshortdialogueshelpedthepupilsinansweringthe</p><p>higherorderquestions.Thus,itisclearfromthisstudythattheuseofgraphicnovels</p><p>canbeveryeffectiveinfosteringcriticalthinkingskillsinelementarystudents.This</p><p>studyshowsthatdifferentandnewreadingmaterialssuchasgraphicnovelsshouldbe</p><p>exploredtoincreasestudents'motivation.</p>
