Description
Summary:This study aimed to evaluate the performance of teachers teaching the Holy Quran at the secondary schools in Medina in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia according to the quality indicators, through a survey among the academic supervisors, as well as direct class observation of teaching performance of the teachers. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used the descriptive approach. Questionnaire was applied to a sample of supervisors of Islamic education in Medina. A note card was also applied on teachers of the Holy Quran in secondary schools in Medina. The results of the study revealed that indicators of quality in the teaching performance of teachers of the Holy Quran at the secondary schools in Medina were at a moderate degree among supervisors of Islamic education. Similarly, the degree of application of the indicators in teaching performance through the evaluation of observers was moderate. The results also highlighted that there was no statistically significant differences between the responses of the supervisors of Islamic education related to the variables of the educational qualification or the teaching experience. The absence of statistical significance was reflected in both, individual fields of teaching performance, and in the total score of performance. Furthermore, the results of this inquiry revealed that in terms of observers' evaluations and responses of Islamic Education supervisors, there were significant differences in every field of Quran teachers' performance, as well as in their total score of performance. The differences significantly leaned toward the observers' evaluations. Among the main recommendations of the research is the need to intensify training workshops to the Holy Quran teachers in the field of planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching. The study also recommends training the teachers on the employment of virtual learning environments and e-learning in the teaching of the Holly Quran.
