總結:This study initially intended to examine if variables of extrinsic motivation, intrinsic motivation and training could influence retention of hotel employees, with a focus on front desk employees. Front desk employees of hotels in Sabah, were administered a combined survey of Blais, Briere, Lachance, Riddle, and Vallerand's (1993) 16-item questionnaire to measure extrinsic and intrinsic motivation, a 5-item questionnaire by Mayasari (2002) to measure training and a 5-item questionnaire by Camman, Fichman, Jenkins and Klesh (1979) to measure employee retention. Only employees of 3 star hotels and above, of any type (city hotel, jungle resort, mangrove resort, island resort) were included in the sample. Data was then be analyzed by conducting a factor analysis and multiple regression. Intrinsic motivation was dropped while conducting the analysis as no data could be tabulated by SPSS. Hence proceeding with just two independent variables, of extrinsic motivation and training, and retaining the dependent variable as employee retention. This study thus tested two hypotheses: (i) There is a positive relationship between extrinsic motivation and employee retention of front desk employees, (ii) that training has a positive effect on front desk employees retention of front desk employees.
