Suatu bakteria Gram negatif dilabelkan sebagai USMAA1020 yang menunjukkan keupayaan menghasilkan polimer poli(3-hidroksibutirat-ko-4-hidroksibutirat) [P(3HB-ko-4HB)] dengan menggunakan γ-butirolakton telah dipencilkan dari persekitaran Malaysia. A Gram negative bacterium designated as USMAA1020 with an ability to produce poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-4-hydroxybutyrate) [P(3HB-co-4HB)] when grown on γ-butyrolactone as the sole carbon source was isolated from Malaysian environment. The polyester was purified from freeze-dried cells and analyzed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.
